ive districts south of Center are Ljubljana’s oldest suburbs, and they have a number of interesting buildings and historic sites.
The neighbourhood around Krakovska ulica, with all its two-storey cottages, was once called the Montmartre of Ljubljana because of all the artists living there.
The Roman wall (Offline map Google map) running along Mirje from Barjanska cesta dates from about AD 15; the archway topped with a pyramid Offline map Google map is a Ple?nik addition.
Spanning the picturesque canal called Grada??ica to the south is little Trnovo Bridge (Offline map Google map) , designed in 1932 by Ple?nik, who added five of his trademark pyramids.

There’s an excellent introduction by guided tour to this almost ascetically religious man’s life, inspiration and work.
Church of St John the Baptist CHURCH Offline map Google map (Cerkev Sv Janeza Krstnika; Kolezijska ulica 1; 8am-6pm) This is the church where the poet Pre?eren met the love of his life, Julija Primic, and Ple?nik worshipped.

The region is also morphing into an important cultural centre, built around a couple of key museums.
